The Institute held its spring research convening at the end of last month, bringing together its fellows, a small group of external practitioners, and visitors from partner institutions for three days of structured discussion.
Three themes anchored the convening. The first was evidentiary standards in transitional accountability work — the topic of an ongoing Working Paper from the Institute's Strategic Unit. The second was comparative methodology, with particular attention to the institutional conditions under which comparative claims are warranted. The third was the state of practitioner networks in the region and the kinds of collaborative work that the Institute can usefully support.
The convening was not closed-door in the conventional sense, but its working sessions were conducted under standing rules that prioritise candid exchange. We expect outputs from several of the sessions to surface in published work over the coming months.
We are grateful to all who participated and to the partners who made the convening possible.
